- : As it was already said, the problem lies with the buffers.
- : This can be fixed without suspending the OS by the use
- : of either a hardware fix inside the Amiga (difficult),
- : or a nice Serial/Parallel converter that will plug in to
- : your parallel port.
- : You can then access the parallel device

- : You will normally be able to find such devices for 40 quid,
- : if the Amiga parallel port is 100% standard.
-
- Unfortunately, it isn't. Not standard, that is, when compared to the parallel
- ports used on PCs, which have a few more data lines available. This is why,
- for example, there is no way to use a parallel port Zip drive on a standard
- Amiga parallel port. Whether a parallel-serial adaptor will work therefore
- depends on two things - 1) whether the adaptor only uses those lines which are
- present on the Amiga's parallel port 2) whether you can find or are capable of
- writing a suitable driver.
-
- Given this, a much more satisfactory solution would be to find a Zorro II
- multiserial card such as the Multiface III or GVP's IOExtender. Either of
- these can be picked up second hand for less than US$100. I'm not sure if
- either of these are still available new, though I did hear recently that a
- Multiface IV might soon be available.
